Why do Bush and McBush see drilling as the only solution to the oil crisis?

Seeing how drilling in ANWAR wouldn't even significantly add to the domestic oil supply until 2018, I don't see how anyone in their right mind could tout this as a solution to the current energy crisis.Why do Bush and McBush see drilling as the only solution to the oil crisis?
Because drilling is how you get more oil. Ethanol from corn is not as efficient as gasoline. As a matter of fact it takes oil to make ethanol since most fertilizers are made from it. if you were to calculate the energy contained in the amount of gasoline that could be derived from the oil used to fertilize corn fields, it would exceed that that could be derived from the ethanol that field would produce.


you want an ethanol based nation? than use genetically tailored algae it grows much faster and doesn't need additives. not to mention that we would no longer be competing with our food supply.


but that fact is that we are not ready for the switch to ethanol. the average car cannot run off it alone.





and so oil is still a nessesity. and in the meantime our options are buy it from countries that hate us or drill our own. the democratic congress and the environmentalists have been blocking drilling for decades..


sure nature is pretty but we need oil to sustain our civilization we can try to make oil cleaner but until we are all driving electric cars charged off a power grid supplied by fusion power ... nature can take one for the team
Maybe because GOP has come to stand for Greedy Oilman's Party? Congress authorized exploration and development of millions of acres both in Alaska and offshore back during the Clinton administration, the oil companies just never bothered to exploit them. In the long run the only real solutions involve drastic and painful changes in the lifestyles of the U.S. people, akin to the ones the Europeans made in the '80s when this happened the last time. Right now we're like junkies who can't afford their fix and are screaming for cheaper dope.
You're right. We should never drill for oil. We need to keep buying it from the middle east, and keep spending American blood to keep the peace there so we can buy the oil. Or we could just all ride bicycles. Farmers can go back to plowing their fields with horses and mules. We can have solar powered trains and wind powered trucks to bring our food to the market. And we all know that BIG OIL spent billions of dollars leasing 66 million acres so they can just let us sit idle so they ,can deceive us. Because they had nothing better to spend billions of dollars on. Republicans just don't understand the economy like us educated democrats, we have no use for oil. We can all just ride our bicycles.

also lifting the ban for offshore drilling isnt going to solve the crisis any time soon,it will be atleast 10 years till we see the effects,he was once serious about climate change,now he is a whore for the oil industry.

The reality of supply and demand. If we can supply...then the demand from other countries (including ourselves) has the possibillity of decreasing. Thus putting less $$$ in their pockets. They will lower the price to be more competitive with other markets (current or potential). If the cost is more reasonable...then the US can decide if they should proceed or if they can hold off on drilling. If you see your major export possibly decreasing even if it might be in 30 years...you would be wise to try and prevent that now. It has nothing to do with democrat or republican....it is demand vs. supply....you have to follow the $$$$....its all about the $$$
Wish they would wake up to themselves and stop deceiving others by pretending they don't have oil when they do and it's capped, why don't they try uncapping the oil they know they have. Wake up people, they are deceiving you.

Second, why are those people who are so dead set against drilling the first ones to cry that the USA went into Iraq for oil, no blood for oil, yet your denial of us drilling in our own territories is bound to keep us in the Middle East longer? Do you approve of financing your enemies?


I don't give a damn that gas is $4.00...let it go to $5.00...just keep that money in the USA and let OPEC eat sand!
Because they are not content with the billions paid to Halliburton and other cronies. They want to squeeze every dime to their buddies while they are still in power. I am sick of the USA being the Bush cash cow. Bush for 8 years has been bad enough but 4 more for McBush is unthinkable.

They want the drilling because it's the fastest way to become independant but both have stated that it's a very short-term solution and alternative energies must be looked into. The drilling will give us time to do that.
because they are big time liars and that's what they're good at. Don't let it bother yout too much they love to lie about how off shore drilling will solve all our problems because it wont.

Who says they see it as the ONLY solution? But a smart leader will want to cover as many possibilities as he can. To ignore drilling, WHILE exploring other possibilities would be asinine. What don't you get about that logic?

The oil companies were mad that the other bush stopped off shore drilling and will give bush and mcbush ';perks'; for opening the drilling back up.

we need to control our own oil reserves and keep ourselves away from foreign oil which is slowly killing this country, we are not used to paying over $4.00 bucks a gallon and it's dragging this whole country into the crapper.
More Oil Supply will lower Prices. Basic Economics 101- You would know that if you didn't drop out of school!

I hope your talking about offshore drilling. If so, it's good for Bush and all his little buddies in the oil industry to make huge profits. As for McCain....he just doesn't know why....an adviosor probably told him that was the best thing to do.
