Oil crisis. Should 30 and 40 MPH speed limits be suspended to allow cars to drive more efficiently?

The most fuel efficient speed for a car is 56 MPH. So to reduce the impact on the environment and reduce the impact of the oil crisis should these low limits of 20, 30, and 40, not to mention 50 MPH be lifted to allow drivers to achieve these savings.

As long as they can do so safely, but then that's a given.Oil crisis. Should 30 and 40 MPH speed limits be suspended to allow cars to drive more efficiently?
In a perfect world( or 40 years ago), i would agree, there should be no speed limits anywhere. If all drivers had common sense, safety would be paramount. it is sad we must be governed for the sake of those that have no respect for safe motoring.Oil crisis. I have a better idea. Oil has caused us endless problems, pollution, wars, etc. The best thing would be for it to be gone so we can move onto something else. Like electric. Heres my idea:

Pump it out as fast as possible

Drop the prices

And encourage people go go utterly nuts with their car.

Lets see how fast we can get rid of it! Then we can have an excuse for developing electric cars quickly.
No. Most of the low speeds are in residential areas or in city downtowns. With all of the careless driving in cities, adding speed will cause more accidents and then what? Besides, who can even go that fast on the hwy during rush hour? You cannot assume safety. When you assume you make an *** out of u and me.
Unfortunately, most lower speed limit areas are residential streets where children are present.

So your idea is not feasible. I wouldn't want to risk our children's safety for fuel economy.
