What are the social effects of the ongoing energy crisis/oil crisis?

The Arabs have a monopoly on crude oil, and therefore have control over the prices. They are out to make money for themselves, which is totally understandable. Their want/need for money is what has finally made the energy/oil crisis come to the forefront of the news.
